Pain and Wellness Lecture (Virtual)

The third lecture of the Winter 2023 Pain Matters Lecture Series addressed pain and wellness. Scott Fishman, director of the UC Davis Center for Advancing Pain Relief, discussed:

  • The impact of pain on a person's lifestyle
  • How lifestyle impacts our quality of life
  • Perspectives on lifestyles for reduced pain

Back Pain Lecture

The second lecture of the Winter 2023 Pain Matters Lecture Series addressed back pain. Gagan Mahajan, a UC Davis Health pain expert who specializes in offering care for adults with various chronic pain conditions, discussed:

  • How to distinguish between back pain that needs medical attention and pain that doesn't
  • Description of the main approaches to treating back pain
  • Options for people who don't have success with common back pain treatments

Cancer Pain Management Lecture

The first lecture of the Winter 2023 Pain Matters Lecture Series addressed cancer pain management. David Copenhaver, Chief of the Division of Pain Medicine and Director of Cancer Pain Management and Supportive Care at UC Davis Health, discussed:

  • Understanding cancer related pain
  • Opioid therapy to treat cancer pain
  • Unique management strategies to ease pain and suffering
