Kidney transplant patients fare better from live donor
In one of the largest studies of its kind, UC Davis researchers looked at 12,089 children who received a kidney transplant during the 20-year study period, and found that patients have better long-term outcomes when their kidney comes from living, biologically unrelated donors compared to deceased donors.
Long-term outcomes with infant kidney transplants
A new UC Davis study published in the journal Transplantation Direct demonstrates that infants with advanced chronic kidney disease — one of the most vulnerable of all patients — have much to benefit from receiving kidney transplants during infancy and can do so safely and with excellent long-term outcomes, in an experienced transplant center. In addition, if kidney transplants take place earlier, the adverse effects of waste buildup due to kidney failure can be avoided.
Unique dialysis service provides bridge to transplant
To better serve children waiting for a kidney, our program continues to be the region’s only outpatient peritoneal dialysis service for patients under 10 years of age.
