On Jan. 1, 2022, Emmie Arnold received the devastating diagnosis that she has brain cancer. Since then, she has had two surgeries at the UC Davis Children’s Surgery Center to remove the tumor. During her hospitalization, Daniels, the UC Davis facility dog based in the PICU, has been a support to her and her family.
“To see your teenager, fearful and in pain, away from her home and disconnected from her future, receive comfort has been a source of infinite gratitude for us. Emmie calls Daniels her best boy. He was laying with her up until the moments before her brain surgery, which we are convinced directly affected her positive outcome and recovery. We will forever hold Daniels dear in our hearts as her ‘only wonderful thing about this whole ordeal.’”
