Local Therapists

The following is not an exhaustive list, but identifies providers who have volunteered to be listed as eager to provide services to UC Davis Medical Center medical students, residents, and faculty. Please identify yourself as a UC Davis Medical Center medical student, resident, or faculty member when inquiring about appointments.

Medical Students Please Note: UC Davis School of Medicine offers access to counseling services for medical students at the Sacramento Health Campus. They offer free, confidential care through services provided by the UC Davis Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS). In addition to the scheduled services on the medical campus, SHCS provides drop-in Urgent Care services at the main campus. The School of Medicine Counseling Services office is located in Suite 1400 of the Facilities Support Services Building (FSSB) at 4800 2nd Ave. Some evening appointments are available. To make an appointment at the medical campus, please email medschoolcounseling@ucdavis.edu. A professional SHCS staff member will receive that initial email, and you will be assigned to a counselor based on availability and your stated needs, and the counselor will get back to you. If you need more immediate assistance, please call 530-752-2349 at the main campus and identify yourself as a medical student. Same-day appointments are sometimes available, but walk-in services are currently not available at the FSSB office. Psychiatric services can be obtained through the students' behavioral health insurance. Students who have Western Health Advantage (WHA) can access psychiatric and psychological services through Magellan.  Magellan's website is www.magellanassist.com. From there, you will need to enter the following information to access participating  provider information: 1) Click on "Enter or Register as a Guest" 2) Enter 8004241778 3) Click "Accept and Enter as a Guest" 4) Click "Find a Provider" and then "Find a Provider Today" 5) Under Choose a Provider List, select Behavioral Health Programs 6) Enter Zip Code

SHCS Urgent Care and Crisis Response:  Drop-in urgent care services are available daily for urgent matters during normal business hours of operation at the Student Health and Wellness Center (SH&WC) at 930 Orchard Road on the Davis campus (off La Rue Rd.) & North Hall. Call ahead at 530-752-2349 to help them best assist you. SH&WC Davis Campus Normal Hours of Operation (including Urgent Care): Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; North Hall Normal Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday 11 a.m.-4 p.m. 

24/7 Phone Lines:  If you have an emergency after normal hours of operation, you can call the SHCS Appointment Desk/Advice Nurse at 530-752-2349 and follow the prompts to connect you to a mental health professional.

Medical students can also contact Margaret Rea, Ph.D., the Director of Student and Resident Wellness at the UC Davis School of Medicine. Dr. Rea can help medical students identify and access resources to address academic, well-being, and mental health concerns.

Residents Please Note: As a resident you have free, confidential, therapy services through the Academic and Staff Assistance Program (ASAP). In addition to ASAP services, you also have the option of meeting with Dr. Sheetal Shah, who specializes in working with the residents and fellows. To make an appointment you can call the main Academic and Staff Assistance Program line at 916-734-2727 or Dr. Shah directly at 916-822-1916 or drsshah@ucdavis.edu.
