When a member of the Medical Staff self-reports or is suspected of impairment, a confidential process occurs to validate whether or not the Medical Staff member has an impairment problem and they are referred to the Medical Staff Well-Being Committee for assistance.

The UC Davis Health Medical Staff Well-being Committee is dedicated to recognizing and offering assistance to physicians who are suffering from substance abuse or dependence, or physical or mental health issues that impair their ability to work and function at their best. The success of this program depends on the cooperation of the individual being assisted. In all instances, the goal of the Medical Staff Well-being Committee is to support the individual in his/her recovery.

Confidentiality will be maintained in all discussions and with all documentation and records regarding impaired Medical Staff members.

A monitoring agreement will be drafted to address the individual circumstances and specific needs if required.
