Therapeutic Musician

Trained in Los Angeles, Elizabeth Bogdanovich has been performing harpist for 25 years, 20 of those in the Sacramento Area. During her time as a choir liaison with the Sacramento Children’s Chorus, she was introduced to musicians who were part of a local non-profit “Music Partners In Healthcare,” a community of Sacramento musicians who are Certified Music Practitioners, serving hospital and skilled nursing facility patients by playing live, individualized, therapeutic music at the bedside of ill or dying patients. After a 2 year training program with the Music for Healing and Transitions program, Elizabeth received her CMP in November of 2013 and began to work at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center on Morse Avenue, and Eskaton Skilled Nursing facility in the Greenhaven Pocket area. Since then she has worked to provide live therapeutic harp music at the bedside of patients at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in South Sacramento, Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Roseville, Eskaton Memory Care facility in Roseville, Mercy General Hospital, and patients of Snowline Hospice. Elizabeth joined the UCD Therapeutic Music team in April 2020.

Live therapeutic music brings comfort and relief from anxiety to patients, helps ease physical pain, can give patients a feeling of companionship and familiarity, and has been shown to improve healing. Live, therapeutic music also can ease the transition for patients who are actively dying, and create a dignified and peaceful environment for the patient and their family members. Music in a nursing unit at a hospital creates an environment where staff report they feel more at ease and less stressed.

When Elizabeth is not playing live music, she enjoys hiking and swimming, especially in the Sierra mountain range!
