Our first annual ultrasound guided peripheral nerve block workshop was held June 4, 2011 in Sacramento, California. The workshop objective was to provide a full day of hands on opportunties and instruction. This would enable participants to acquire a thorough knowledge of the imaging techniques. The workshop began with a presentation on The Physics of Ultrasound by Dr. Steve Macres and Dr. Ken Furukawa. The workshops followed; five in the morning and five in the afternoon, and covered above the clavicle nerve block, below the clavicle nerve block, femoral/saphenous nerve block, paravertebral nerve block, infragluteal sciatic nerve block, popliteal nerve block, epidural anatomy, TAP & Illioinguinal nerve block, acoustic artifact & sonopathology, and ultrasound billing. The conference wrap up provided an opportunity for a volunteer to practice a block in front on the entire group with the corresponding ultrasound image displayed on the screen. This prompted many questions and audience interaction. A few highlight photos are provided below. Mark your calendar and plan on attending in 2012.
