This painting was inspired by our web picture and a still from the movie ‘Antebellum.’ I wanted to show child’s trust in the people caring for her, the kindness of the doctors and nurses reassuring her, and a little of the inclusion I see in the faces around us. I was a patient here myself recently, and I know how it feels to be scared and ask, ‘Will I be all right?’ (I am, thank you!)
Creating art is a way I have learned to be kind to myself. It lets me solve something beautiful from tumultuous feelings.
In 2013, an 18-month-old and his mother experienced a terrible car accident. The toddler was rushed to UC Davis Health and underwent several reconstructive surgeries throughout a six weeks span. The toddler’s mother and family put their trust in his care team. Because of this, his life was saved by the amazing team of medical professionals.
