Collage
Image of a baboon made from many colored pieces of magazine
I created this collage on Christmas Day, 2021. It was the second year in a row that the members of my extended family were not gathering as a group due to COVID-19. It had been a tough year; most of us didn’t feel like celebrating anyway. On the night we would normally have met as a large, extended family, a few of us quietly made collages instead, a favorite of my late grandfather. We shared in the trust that 2022 would bring moments of joy, and that our family would end up stronger because of what we had gone through. To me, this art piece represents ‘trust,’ not just in the people around me, but that the process of life will ultimately work out on the end. —Sarah Spivack
“Outside the Lines”
Painting
Watercolor, ink, acrylic on paper
Creating art is a way I have learned to be kind to myself. It lets me solve something beautiful from tumultuous feelings.—Anita Savell
“Will I Be All Right?”
Painting/Drawing Paper
Watercolor and pencils painting of child with doctor
This painting was inspired by our web picture and a still from the movie ‘Antebellum.’ I wanted to show child’s trust in the people caring for her, the kindness of the doctors and nurses reassuring her, and a little of the inclusion I see in the faces around us. I was a patient here myself recently, and I know how it feels to be scared and ask, ‘Will I be all right?’ (I am, thank you!)—Laurel Beckett
“Cross the Bridge Together”
Photography
Black and white photograph of Vasco De Gama Bridge in Lisbon, Portugal
This photo represents the value of trust. It depicts several couples viewing the bridge together on benches and represents the trust between partners and the journeys they go through together in relationships, regardless of the challenges faced during the course of their relationships.—Martina Thomas
