I saw this beautiful monarch butterfly while walking with my fiance on T street across the UC Davis Hospital on a sunny evening in June. As I was finishing up my third year of medical school, I reflected on how it was such a transformative and rewarding year, albeit being full of change and challenges. The monarch butterfly undergoes a remarkable metamorphosis from a caterpillar to a butterfly, which showcases change, growth, and healing. This parallels to my interactions and experiences with patients, their families, doctors and communities have taught me humility and compassion, but most importantly, the power of healing through change and love.”—Aneri Patel
