(SACRAMENTO)

UC Davis Medical Center has been recognized as one of the nation’s top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report in its annual survey of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide.

This year, UC Davis Medical Center ranked as the No. 1 hospital in Sacramento and No. 6 in California. The medical center has been the No.1 hospital in Sacramento for at least the last 11 years, and among the Top 10 in the state for the past nine years.

“UC Davis Medical Center continues to be a national leader, utilizing the most innovative advances in medicine to achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients,” said David Lubarsky, CEO of UC Davis Health. “This recognition is due to the expertise and dedication of every member of our health system, who work tirelessly to provide patient-centered care every day to every single patient while we train the next generation of health professionals and scientists to treat the patients of tomorrow.”

At No. 21, gynecology was the medical center’s highest-ranked specialty, followed closely by geriatrics (No. 23), diabetes and endocrinology (No. 26) and pulmonology and lung surgery (No. 27).

Five other specialties — cardiology and heart surgery (No. 32), neurology and neurosurgery (No. 36), ear, nose and throat (No. 37), cancer (No. 39) and orthopaedics (No. 50) — also placed in the nation’s top 50.

This recognition is a reflection of their constant hard work.”

U.S. News ranks hospitals and medical centers annually in a range of specialties, using results from a survey of physicians and care-related quality measures. Based on its annual survey of nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide, it assesses hospital performances in 16 specialties or specialty areas, from cancer to orthopaedics.

Hospital rankings are determined by an extensive analysis of data, including hospital volume, nurse staffing, a hospital’s ability to develop and sustain high-quality care, patient experience, and expert opinion surveys of board-certified physicians.
