Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism
Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide our patients the most advanced science and technology, in a caring and respectful manner, working as a team with our partners in other disciplines.
Patient Care:
We have expertise in all aspects of endocrinology, such as type 1 and type 2 diabetes; thyroid diseases including nodules and cancer; parathyroid diseases and osteoporosis; pituitary and adrenal disorders; polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and male hypogonadism and infertility. We use the state of the art technologies of ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration, insulin pump and continuous glucose monitoring, and administer various infusions for treatment and testing as needed. We work closely with our partners in the departments of surgery (such as ear nose and throat, surgical oncology, neurosurgery, bariatric surgery), radiology, nuclear medicine, and pathology. We are assisted by dietitians and diabetes educators in the care of our patients.
We also contribute to the care of our veterans through a close working relationship with the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Mather.
Education:
Our two-year fellowship program accepts two fellows each year. Our program is highly competitive and well respected. Our fellows train to become outstanding endocrinologists and caring physicians. We also teach numerous residents and medical students from our institution and from other medical schools and centers.
Our research is patient-oriented. One of our faculty has been studying nutritional regulation of hormones in PCOS, metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes. Another faculty is world’s expert in the genetics of Lp(a). A new recruit will investigate function of mitochondria in diabetes at tissue level. All of our fellows are involved in research projects during their training as well.
The Division of Endocrinology thrives for excellence in medical knowledge, patient care, research, and social responsibility.
