UC Davis Internal Medicine Education Programs train new doctors with the same passion and dedication that we bring to patient care and research. Our faculty and staff produce the best physicians by teaching residents and fellows to communicate openly with their patients, respecting them as individuals, and improving their quality-of-life. Because the practice of medicine is constantly changing, we emphasize the importance of lifelong learning and the willingness to be open to new ideas.
Our goal is to train outstanding internists and to help each resident achieve his or her ultimate career goal after residency.

Welcome to the UC Davis Internal Medicine Education website. As Vice Chair for Education, I want to share a few highlights of our educational programs and community.
Our department trains new doctors with the same passion and dedication that we bring to patient care, research, and community health. We strive to develop outstanding housestaff by emphasizing core clinical skills development including the rational clinical examination, diagnostic reasoning, high-value care and honest, respectful communication with all patients. Because the practice of medicine is constantly changing, we emphasize lifelong learning, quality and systems improvement, and openness to novel ideas and approaches.
We offer a variety of outstanding educational experiences including five Internal Medicine (IM) residency programs (Categorical IM, Primary Care IM, IM/Psychiatry, Transforming Education and Community Health (TEACH), and Military Medicine) and 4 educational practice tracks (Quality Improvement, Leadership, Medical Education, and Research). We offer 12 fellowships including Allergy, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Disease, Nephrology, Palliative Care, Quality, Safety, and Comparative Effectiveness Research Training T32 Program, Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine, Rheumatology, and Sleep Medicine.
UC Davis is committed to improving the health of our local and global community. Many people do not recognize the incredible diversity of the South Sacramento community, which was recently noted by TIME magazine and the Civil Rights Project of Harvard University as the most racially/ethnically integrated major city in America.
Our greatest asset is our fellows, residents and students - a group of truly exceptional individuals who demonstrate a sustained commitment to academic excellence and lifelong learning, teamwork, and exemplary professional standards. Equipped with these values, they learn to provide compassionate, high quality care to our patients under the watchful mentoring of a talented, inspiring, and uniquely approachable faculty.
We look forward to your application to become a part of UC Davis Internal Medicine. We are extremely excited and honored to train the next generation of outstanding general internists and internal medicine subspecialists.
I thank and look forward to meeting you.
Sincerely,
Mark C. Henderson, M.D., M.A.C.P.
Vice Chair for Education, Internal Medicine
