Mission

The mission of the UC Davis Internal Medicine Residency Program is to nurture and train physicians whose cultures, lived experiences, and perspectives reflect the breadth of our pluralistic nation, preparing them to become outstanding internists who will improve the health of their patients and communities. 

Core Values

Program Aims

Our residents care for one of the most varied patient populations in the nation, serving each patient and community with humility.

Our ultimate goal is to train outstanding internists and to support each resident in achieving their ultimate career goals after residency. I often describe our program as a community of pluripotent stem cells: each stem cell (or resident) can differentiate into a wide array of mature cell types (internists). Whether you aspire to be a rural primary care physician, clinician-scientist, hospitalist, academic or community subspecialist, or clinician-educator, at UC Davis you'll find mentorship and opportunities to help you develop the skills and experiences to get you there. We have an established track record of highly successful graduates engaged in a variety of different career paths.

There are many excellent internal medicine training programs with dedicated and engaged faculty, bright residents, and advanced clinical care systems. UC Davis is proud to be one of them. Here are a few features that set us apart from other programs (click on each bullet to learn more):

• Multiple clinical training sites and wide catchment areas that expose residents to a wide range of patient populations, pathology, and healthcare settings

• Specialized elective tracks that allow residents to tailor their training experience to their unique interests and goals
• A balanced schedule – 4+2 in internship and 4+4 in upper levels

While I am proud of our program’s unique accomplishments, the number one reason to come here is the people.
