Luis Fernando Santana, Ph.D.The Department of Physiology and Membrane Biology is formed by an outstanding group of faculty, postdoctoral fellows, students, and staff. Our mission is to conduct innovative research, engage in high-level service, and provide excellent educational opportunities and mentoring to students, postdoctoral fellows, and residents in the discipline of physiology. Collaboration and fearless exploration of new ideas is key to achieving this mission.

The department is currently in a period of expansion that involves the recruitment of the most talented scientists in the field. Intellectual diversity is critical in this process. The goal is to grow and in the process, create the conditions that favor paradigm-shifting discoveries that advance understanding of biological processes and benefit society by facilitating more precise diagnosis, and effective disease treatment.
