Emotional intelligence is defined as the ability to perceive, control and evaluate our emotions. The benefits of attaining a high level of emotional intelligence in the workplace include improved communication, teamwork, empathy, quality of care, career satisfaction, and ability to respond effectively in stressful situations. As physicians, emotional intelligence allows us to improve the relationships and positive interactions we build with patients and healthcare professionals.
