Job Summary

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) in the School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at UC Davis Health provide care to adult and pediatric with a variety of perioperative needs.

This position works under the direction of the Chief Anesthetist, as a member of the care team model, which reports jointly to the Vice Chair and Associate Chief of Perioperative Medicine for clinical services, the Chair, and the CAO for administrative services. This position is split approx. 25% administrative leadership and 75% clinical duties.

Under the direction of the Chief Anesthetist partners to provide daily twenty-four (24) hour planning, organizing, directing, and controlling of the daily operations and clinical practice of assigned patient care areas, to provide quality, individualized patient care and support of Medical Center philosophies. The Nurse Anesthetist S2 will lead staff to model a professional practice environment by providing a clinically competent staff; encouraging strong interdisciplinary team collaboration and communication; supporting autonomy and accountability; providing staff opportunities for in-service and formal education; stressing the importance of continuous learning; and supporting a culture where concern for the patient is paramount. The Nurse Anesthetist Supervisor 2 may support research, participates in both long- and short-term strategic planning, and assures patient advocacy.

The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine is responsible for providing anesthesia and analgesia services in the Hospital and Clinics. Service areas include, but are not limited to: Pavilion OR, SDSC, CSC, PACU, IR, Pulmonary Lab, Cancer Center, GI Lab, Midtown GI, EP Lab, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, L&D, Pain Center, MRI, Burn Unit, ER and all ICU’s. This position functions as an experienced provider of anesthetic services and airway management under the general direction of medical faculty. Provides anesthesia for all patients, including the more complicated/difficult patients of all ages.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of nursing management experience required.
Minimum of a Master’s degree in Nursing.
Currently licensed as a CRNA in California, current certification by AANA as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, or proof of application (receipt or cancelled check) for certification as Certified Nurse Anesthetist by the California Board of Registered Nurse.
Certified Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) without restriction.
Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction.
American Heart Association (AHA) BLS CPR Certification.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Meets specialty specific clinical competencies for assigned area.
Certification of field of practice preferred (if appropriate).
Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice.

Full command (verbal and written) of the English language.

Responsibilities 

The Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine Department is responsible for providing anesthesia and analgesia services in the Hospital and Clinics. Service areas include, but are not limited to: Pavilion OR, SDSC, CSC, PACU, IR, Pulmonary Lab, Cancer Center, GI Lab, Midtown GI, EP Lab, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, L and D, Pain Center, MRI, Burn Unit, ER and all ICUs. This position functions as an experienced provider of anesthesia services and airway management under the general direction of medical faculty. Provides anesthesia care for all patients, including all age groups and demographics, and for extremely complicated and challenging cases as well.

 

Required Qualifications 

Current California RN license
Current California CRNA license or proof of application (receipt or cancelled check) to be licensed as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist by the California Board of Registered Nurses.
Graduates of accredited CRNA programs must be board-certified by the NBCRNA as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist by time of hire 
CRNAs must demonstrate current and continuous certification by the NBCRNA as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist 
AHA CPR/BLS certification
Knowledge of general nursing theories and practices
Knowledge of and strong skills and abilities in airway management and the use and safe administration of anesthetic agents, ancillary drugs, and techniques.
Knowledge of and ability to provide invasive monitoring techniques and interpretation
Ability to establish priorities and organize workload
Knowledge of the legal implications of clinical practice
Skills to work quickly and accurately under pressure
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as part of the team, utilizing strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
Ability to report and record accurate and timely information in the EMR
Ability to prioritize controlled-substance stewardship through accurate and timely documentation, reconciliation, and compliance.

 

Special Requirements 

Must demonstrate the ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, while considering protective interventions and the development (behavioral and physical) and physiological characteristics specific to each patient. 
Willingness and capability to teach all learners
Ability to safely lift 25 pounds and assist in moving patients, and to stand on feet over extended periods
Works overtime as defined by the collective bargaining agreements; able to provide anesthesia in all areas and all shifts to include weekends and holidays 
References reflect an overall “meets” or “exceeds” performance assessment
This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment
