Department Description   

The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine delivers comprehensive anesthesia and pain management services across a wide range of clinical settings within the Hospital and Clinics. Key service areas include, but are not limited to: Pavilion Operating Rooms, Same Day Surgery Center (SDSC), Children's Surgery Center (CSC), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Interventional Radiology (IR), Pulmonary Lab, Cancer Center, Gastrointestinal (GI) Labs (including Midtown GI), Electrophysiology (EP) Lab, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Labor & Delivery, Pain Management Center, MRI, Burn Unit, Emergency Room, all Intensive Care Units, and the 48X-Complex.

This position serves as a skilled and experienced anesthesia provider, operating under the general supervision of attending medical faculty. The role involves delivering high-quality anesthesia care and airway management to a diverse patient population, including pediatric through geriatric patients, and managing complex, high-acuity cases across multiple specialties.

The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine is a nationally recognized, dynamic, and rapidly growing multispecialty practice dedicated to advancing clinical excellence, innovative research, and world-class education. Job Summary    

The Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine Department is responsible for providing anesthesia and analgesia services in the Hospital and Clinics. Department Description

Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine is one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine with an annual budget of $64+ million. The Department provides patient care across many locations: UC Davis Pavilion (main hospital), Lawrence J. Ellison Ambulatory Care Center (ACC), UC Comprehensive Cancer Center, Hospital-Based Clinics, and Community Care Networks (CCNs); providing service to 44+ operating suites each day and over 28,000 anesthetics annually. Funding includes state, endowment opportunity, indirect cost return, reserves, summer sessions, service enterprises, educational sales and service and self-supporting activity. The Department is comprised of 260+ staff, which include faculty, residents and fellows, nurse anesthetists, and administrative support staff. The Department mission includes clinical, education, research, and community outreach (public service).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current California RN license, in process, or the ability to obtain California RN license by the time of hire
  • Current CRNA license, with the ability to obtain a California CRNA license and proof of application (receipt or cancelled check) to be licensed as a California Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist by the time of hire
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited CRNA Masters or Doctoral Program by the time of hire
  • CRNAs must demonstrate current and continuous certification by the NBCRNA as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist by the time of hire
  • AHA CPR/BLS certification
  • Knowledge of general nursing theories and practices
  • Knowledge of and strong skills and abilities in airway management and the use and safe administration of anesthetic agents, ancillary drugs, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of and ability to provide invasive monitoring techniques and interpretation
  • Ability to establish priorities and organize workload
  • Knowledge of the legal implications of clinical practice
  • Skills to work quickly and accurately under pressure
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as part of the team, utilizing strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to report and record accurate and timely information in the EMR
  • Ability to prioritize controlled-substance stewardship through accurate and timely documentation, reconciliation, and compliance.
