I created this collage on Christmas Day, 2021. It was the second year in a row that the members of my extended family were not gathering as a group due to COVID-19. It had been a tough year; most of us didn’t feel like celebrating anyway. On the night we would normally have met as a large, extended family, a few of us quietly made collages instead, a favorite of my late grandfather. We shared in the trust that 2022 would bring moments of joy, and that our family would end up stronger because of what we had gone through. To me, this art piece represents ‘trust,’ not just in the people around me, but that the process of life will ultimately work out on the end.
One of my hobbies is taking pictures and I love to take pictures of landscapes, geography and nature. I find with my camera I can capture different perspectives that the naked eye may not see. Seeing things with a different perspective allows one to appreciate the beauty of differences. I feel fortunate to be part an organization that strives to be inclusive because they see the beauty in differences.
