One year ago, on a camping trip near Cottonwood, California, fourth-grader Emily Roberts woke up unable to move her leg. She’d already endured months of worsening symptoms, with repeated hospital visits yielding no answers.
Pediatric neurosurgeon Cameron Sadegh had Emily airlifted to UC Davis Children’s Hospital, where he and fellow neurosurgeons Rick Price and Branden Cord uncovered the cause: a rare, aggressive bone cyst compressing her spinal cord.
The team’s rapid response across three surgeries helped save Emily’s mobility and her future.
Now she’s back where she belongs: in school, with her friends and on the cheer team! “Thank you for getting me to where I am today, so I can be a kid again,” Emily said.
