The Healthy Aging in a Digital World initiative brings together expertise from medicine, nursing, engineering, social sciences and design to explore how technology can support healthier, more independent aging.
Our interdisciplinary team studies how digital tools, connected devices and innovative technologies can help people manage their health, stay socially connected, maintain independence and engage more effectively with their care teams.
Research focus areas include:
- Digital Tools for Independence — Remote monitoring, smart home technologies and assistive devices that help older adults live safely at home.
- Cognitive Health and Dementia Care — Technology-enabled assessment, support tools and interventions for people living with cognitive change and their care partners.
- Social Connection and Loneliness — Platforms and programs that reduce isolation and strengthen community ties across generations.
- Inclusive Design and Equity — Co-design with older adults and communities to ensure digital tools are accessible, culturally responsive and equitable.
- Data, AI and Evidence — Applying data science and AI to generate real-world evidence and inform clinical and community practice.

UC Davis Health envisions a future where technology creates a bridge between independent living and access to health care across every stage of life. The Healthy Living in a Digital World initiative brings together researchers, clinicians, engineers and community partners to design, test and scale technologies that support health, independence and social connection across the lifespan.
We envision a world where personal devices, home monitors and mobile apps empower people to manage their health, while connections with family members and care teams generate insights that improve care and clinical practice.
