Didactics & Scholarly Activity

We realize a didactic teaching program dedicated to fellowship training is an essential part of the Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship, and fellows are directly involved. Weekly one-hour lectures are presented by pediatric anesthesiology faculty covering all areas of pediatric anesthesiology—from basic pediatric physiology to the management of specific congenital cardiac lesions, designed to prepare fellows for the Pediatric Anesthesia board exam and to excel as Pediatric Anesthesia Consultants.

Fellows will participate in a weekly fellow lecture series, Pediatric Section Journal Club, oral board preparation, routine Simulation Center sessions and weekly departmental Grand Rounds as part of the fellowship core curriculum. Fellows will be given the opportunity to participate in resident education by preparing and leading monthly residency lectures with the assistance of a faculty member.

All fellows will complete a scholarly project during their Fellowship. Preparation begins with Program Director discussions in the months leading up to fellowship. Direct assistance of the fellow’s project occurs with frequent faculty mentor meetings. Past projects have included journal articles, book chapters, limited distribution publications, case reports, poster presentations, participation in ongoing research projects, etc. All fellows are expected to present at Grand Rounds once during fellowship.
