Clerkship NBME (Shelf) Exam Study Time Policy

PURPOSE
To provide guidance on protected time for medical students for NBME (shelf) exams in the clerkship phase of the curriculum.

All medical students in the clerkship phase and clerkship directors

LCME STANDARD
6.3 Self-Directed and Life-Long Learning

POLICY
To adequately prepare for NBME Subject (Shelf) Examinations, students will not be assigned new clinical responsibilities or required to attend didactic sessions after 12 PM on the day prior to the Shelf Examination.

PROCEDURE
Students will be released from their clinical responsibilities no later than 12 PM on the day before the clerkship’s Shelf Examination.
