Dorsal root ganglion (DRG) stimulation is another minimally invasive treatment option for chronic pain. This procedure involves placing a small device near the DRG, which is a bundle of nerve cells that transmit pain signals to the brain. The device sends electrical impulses to the DRG, which can disrupt the pain signals and reduce the amount of pain felt by the patient.

DRG stimulation may be used to treat chronic pain in the lower back, legs, and feet. It may be an option for patients who have tried other treatments without success, including SCS. Like SCS, patients will undergo a thorough evaluation before undergoing DRG stimulation to determine if they are a good candidate for the procedure. A psychological screening is also required by insurance carriers.
