Inclusive Excellence Medical Student Scholarship
Welcome to the Inclusive Excellence Scholarship (IES) with the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at UC Davis Health! We are excited to offer this scholarship to full-time, fourth-year medical students who are in good standing at accredited U.S. medical schools. This program aims to promote inclusiveness in the medical field by providing an opportunity for eligible students to participate in a four week clinical elective at UC Davis, while remaining registered at their home institution.
Many medical students have limited exposure to the field of anesthesiology, and their perceptions of the specialty are often shaped by incidental observations or secondhand information rather than direct clinical experience. Historically, anesthesiology has lacked diverse representation, with certain groups facing barriers to entry and advancement in the field. The Inclusive Excellence Scholarship under our ANES460 elective aims to foster greater interest in anesthesiology students from all backgrounds, including those historically underrepresented in medicine. The elective broadly introduces medical students to the specialty of anesthesiology spanning preoperative evaluation, intraoperative management, and immediate postoperative care. Students work directly with residents, CRNAs and attendings in the operating room environment; reasonable emphasis is placed on “hands-on” clinical work, within the limits of patient safety, time and efficiency. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to rotate through our esteemed chronic pain department.
The program for the 2025-2026 academic year opens with the first application cycle on July 1, 2025,
- 1st Rotation begins on September 22, 2025, and ends on October 17, 2025
