The Anti-Racism and Cultural Humility (ARC) experience is an extended opportunity to help the UCDH community explore together the multi-faceted goal of health equity by:

1) critically reflecting on our individual and collective identities,

2) in the context of the history of US race relations,

3) ultimately to build the capacity of our institution to doggedly pursue equity.

Since September 2020, we have delivered the 3- or 4-day Anti-Racism and Cultural Humility Trainings to well over 350 medical and nursing school faculty, staff, clinical nurse leaders at the highest levels, and health system leaders, including the Chief Operating Officer of the medical center and the Chief of the Ambulatory Division of UC Davis Health and their direct reports.

We conduct the training from 8 - 5 p.m. over three days, two back-to-back, and the third about a week later. In this way, we can process and apply the intensity of the first two days and return the third day to our carefully established Community of Dialogue. This is not the kind of training where participants can multi-task. Neither is it an experience where people come and go, because they have a meeting here or a commitment there. That becomes disruptive to building carefully on what we create together. We require participants make the investment to attend all three days.

Each training cohort is limited to 15 participants. We pause to do specific, real-time problem solving when opportunities present themselves.
