Training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Improving outcomes for youth

The CAARE Diagnostic and Treatment Center provides training to mental health professionals in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). TF-CBT helps children who have experienced traumatic events and their non-offending caregivers. TF-CBT therapy reduces PTSD symptoms, anxiety, depression and behavioral problems; therapy also supports non-offending caregivers through treatment and improves parent-child communication about the trauma. This treatment approach is appropriate for clinic based and community based mental health settings. CAARE staff are specially trained in TF-CBT practice and supervision.

Training can involve a 1-day overview of the TF-CBT model, a 2-day training covering basic TF-CBT components, and/or ongoing phone consultation and support. Training can also provide consultation to TF-CBT supervisors. To ensure successful implementation of TF-CBT, case consultation is strongly recommended following didactic training.
