Home away from home
The Kiwanis Family House and Ronald McDonald House use charitable support to offer inexpensive, referral-based accommodations on the UC Davis Children’s Hospital grounds for families who have traveled significant distances to seek treatment for a child here.
The Kiwanis Family House offers inexpensive accommodations for eligible patients and their families who travel long distances to receive treatment at UC Davis Children’s Hospital, with individual bedrooms, kitchen facilities, bathrooms, laundry, pay phone, and hook-ups for recreational vehicles. Kiwanis Clubs from around the Sacramento region provide financial support and volunteer staff for the facility.
The Ronald McDonald House is a ‘home away from home’ for eligible families who must travel at least 30 miles to seek medical treatment for their child. The house offers parents and family members of seriously ill and injured children a refuge from the hospital room. Family members have their own bedrooms and bathrooms and share common kitchens, living and laundry facilities, and special rooms are set up with toys, computers and video game consoles for the children.
