Medical Interpreting Services Department at UC Davis Health holds the 40-hour industry standard “Connecting Worlds” training for medical interpreters one time per year.  The training satisfies the CCHI and CMI national certification pre-qualification requirements.

“Connecting Worlds”

This is a 40 hours industry standard introductory training
for medical interpreters. It satisfies the CMI/CCHI national
certification prerequisite requirement.

This Training Includes:

  • 40 hours of virtual classroom time and homework
  • Non-language specific training group – all languages are welcome
  • Activities, terminology review, practice
  • Case studies, role play
  • In-depth study of medical interpreter roles, ethics, legal issues
  • An overview of the latest video interpreting technology
  • Presentations from industry professionals
  • An overview of the two national certification exams
  • Tips on national exam preparation and requirements
  • A full training binder
  • Certificate of completion

Requirements

This training requires that you:

  • Be at least 18 years of age;
  • have at least 6 months of interpreting experience (paid or unpaid, in any setting);
  • submit all required paperwork;
  • attend all five training days to receive a certificate;
  • have appropriate technology available to join this training.
