Evaluation of Student Performance Policy
PURPOSE
To outline the process by which the performance and progress of medical students shall be assessed and addressed.

POLICY
The Committee on Student Promotions (CSP) shall ensure the formulation and application of effective procedures for the evaluation of student performance, which is defined to include both academic achievement and professional competence as stated in the School of Medicine's Bylaws and Regulations, Regulations 60-80.
PROCEDURE
- CSP has responsibility for overseeing student performance and ensuring students are making satisfactory academic progress including readiness to move from one phase of the curriculum to the next and to graduate; this takes place through the review of course outcomes and professionalism notification at monthly committee meetings.
- The Committee will provide guidance whenever a student’s academic or professionalism progress is of concern.
- Students may be placed on academic warning or academic notice (effective 2025: academic probation is known as academic notice).
- Students may be assigned remediation activities.
- Students are removed from academic warning or academic notice once they have completed their CSP-approved remediation plan.
- The Committee can recommend dismissal of students based on criteria and using the process set forth in the School's Bylaws and Regulations.
