Disability Insurance Requirement Policy
PURPOSE
To outline the requirements for medical students to have Long-Term Disability Insurance coverage.

POLICY
- All actively registered medical students are required to have Long-Term Disability Insurance Coverage.
- Health insurance will cover the costs of evaluation and treatment for acute and chronic diseases as well as preventive care, but it will not replace income lost in the event of a sustained disabling condition. Only disability insurance policies provide such coverage.
PROCEDURE
- Medical students are provided long-term disability insurance starting in the fall quarter of the first year of medical school.
- Medical students are charged for disability insurance each fall quarter; the fee is included in their student tuition and fees.
- The Registrar’s Office maintains student enrollment in disability insurance.
