Health Insurance Requirement Policy
PURPOSE
To outline the School’s policy on the requirement for students to have health insurance.
SETTING
All enrolled medical students

12.6 Student Health and Disability Insurance
POLICY
- All UC Davis students, including School of Medicine students, are required to have health insurance.
- All registered students are automatically enrolled in the University of California Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP).
- Students who have comparable insurance coverage and do not wish to be enrolled in UC SHIP may complete a waiver to request an exemption from the School-sponsored Insurance. (see References).
PROCEDURE
- The requirement for insurance is obtained through either:
- Enrollment in the School-sponsored insurance plan, or
- Completing the exemption form to waive the School of Medicine-sponsored insurance and provide evidence of insurance coverage.
- Health insurance enrollment and waivers are maintained by UC Davis Student Health and Counseling Services.
