Residency Program - Case of the Month
September 2011 - Presented by Mahan Matin, M.D.
Clinical history:
The patient is a 2-year-old boy with a soft tissue mass in the thenar eminence of the hand. MRI showed an amorphous area of enhancing soft tissue in the thenar eminence and a suggestion of increased soft tissue between the radial metacarpals. Excision was performed and showed a 1.5 x 1.5 cm poorly circumscribed subcutaneous mass. Sections of the specimen revealed glistening gray-white surfaces with focal yellow areas.
