MCAT Preparatory Scholarship Opportunity!

The California Postbaccalaureate Consortium is proud to offer scholarships for a Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) Preparatory Course. Current students and alumni of the California State University and University of California systems are eligible to apply for this scholarship. 

All scholarship recipients planning to apply for the following medical school admissions cycle are required to apply to MiMentor's Medical School Readiness Series for additional community and guidance. For more information on MiMentor, please visit www.mimentor.org

The California Postbaccalaureate Consortium is hosted by the UC Davis School of Medicine Office of Student and Resident Diversity. Special thanks to the California State University, Sacramento Science Educational Equity (SEE) Program for their outreach partnership! 

This scholarship is funded by a grant from the California Wellness Foundation. 

Application Deadlines and Process

Application will open on April 2024!

Using the application, please address the following essay questions:

  1. Why are you interested in receiving the MCAT Preparatory Scholarship?
  2. Describe a difficult situation you have overcome. How do you feel this has prepared you for a career in medicine?
  3. What activities have you participated in or lead that demonstrate your commitment to providing services to individuals from economically and medically disadvantaged communities? If your experience is limited, what do you hope to do in the future?

Once you have completed the application, please submit the following supplemental material to pbcentraladmin@ucdavis.edu using the email subject line: 2024-2025 MCAT Preparatory Scholarship Program-PBC: Last Name, First Name

Please note that all materials and a completed application must be emailed to pbcentraladmin@ucdavis.edu by the deadline.  Materials received after the deadline date will not be considered.

Is this scholarship for California Postbaccalaureate Consortium students?

  • No. Although this scholarship is supported by the California Postbaccalaureate Consortium Central Administration, this scholarship is only open for those that are not currently enrolled in the California Postbaccalaureate Consortium. Current postbaccalaureate students are already offered MCAT preparation as a component of their Consortium program. 

What is the timeline for this scholarship?

  • Access to Kaplan MCAT preparation material will be granted to scholarship awardees no later than August of the application year. Scholarship recipients must select an MCAT preparation course within a year of gaining access to materials. 

What is a financial award letter?

  • If you applied for financial aid, the financial award letter from your college spells out the details of your financial aid package. Reach out to your institution's financial aid office for additional information and where to locate your financial award letter. 

Is this rolling admissions?

  • The MCAT Preparatory Scholarship does not have rolling admissions. Our application opens every April and closes in June.  All materials must be received by the deadline and admissions decisions will be made after the deadline. 

Do I need to be a CA resident? 

  • Yes! We are looking for applicants that are CSU or UC students or alumni and are currently CA Residents. This scholarship is open for those with AB540, Undocumented, and DACAmented status. 

Why are scholarship recipient's highly encouraged to apply to MiMentor's Medical School Readiness (MSR) Program?

  • We highly encourage eligible scholarship recipients to apply to MiMentor's MSR Program for hands-on mentorship and support outside of this scholarship opportunity. This, alongside MCAT support, can help you to become a more competitive applicant.

Although we strongly encourage the submission of a free application to MiMentor's MSR program, there is no guaranteed admission.
