Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Hertz-Picciotto's research addresses environmental factors influences on adverse health outcomes and/or resilience and improved health or development, with major focus on consequences of exposures during pregnancy, such as birth outcomes and later risks for developing autism or other neurobehavioral challenges. She recently turned her attention to current ecologic threats to human well-being including wildfires, extreme weather, and their impacts on physical and mental health. In 2015 she launched the UC Davis Environmental Health Sciences Center bringing together over 75 researchers from six UC Davis Colleges and Schools for innovative and highly interdisciplinary science, technology development, and translation of environmental health research results for community partners and potential policy relevance.
