Endowments
At the following minimum giving levels, donors may create an endowed fund in their name or in honor or memory of a family member, loved one, other significant individual or organization. Endowed funds generate income in perpetuity, providing a stable source of revenue to help the school achieve its vision.
An endowment is created by a donor from a gift containing a legal stipulation that the original gift may never be expended. These gifts are held and invested in perpetuity by UC Davis Health and the UC Davis Foundation for the purpose of generating a permanent expendable income stream from the return on the gift for the purpose the donor desires.
Endowed gifts may be for restricted or unrestricted purposes and are particularly important to UC Davis due to their permanency. These gifts permit planning for programs into the far future.
Endowed chairs and professorships are established with initial investments that create annual distributions to provide support in perpetuity for particular areas of care, teaching, research and service. The steady stream of funding gives faculty members extra support they need to:
- Identify new projects;
- Launch multistep research endeavors;
- Explore multidisciplinary collaborations;
- Recruit additional talented faculty;
- Hire research assistants;
- Perfect new therapies;
- Improve the curriculum, and
- Pursue community partnerships.
Establishing endowed chairs and professorships are acts of great generosity and vision. Donors who create an endowment do so because they understand the importance of supporting the institution not only during their own lifetime, but for generations to come. These visionary individuals, families, and organizations become an extraordinary resource for UC Davis and our talented faculty.
The minimum investment to establish an endowed fund is $50,000. Endowed professorships can be created for $1M, endowed chairs $1.5M.
Endowed Faculty Support
Endowed faculty gifts help recognize an outstanding professor, or recruit prominent faculty at UC Davis. It is a prestigious honor for the faculty member, and can also be a source of great pride for the donor and supporters who establish the endowment.
Endowed Visiting Professorships
Visiting professorships provide a source of rotating appointments for distinguished visiting scholars from other universities. These scholars rely on the visiting professorship funds as a supplement to their current salary. A visiting professor can enhance the cultural and academic life of the University during that professor's stay on campus.
Endowed Lectureships
Lectureships provide an opportunity for a wide variety of relevant specialists with national and international reputations of excellence to visit UC Davis Medical Center. One of the most appealing features of the academic experience is the opportunity to “talk shop” with distinguished scientists from all over the world. An endowed lectureship provides a much needed source of funding to attract leading researchers and scientists. You can also support our established lectureships, the Hideo “Dale” Kubo Memorial Lectureship, or work with our development officers to establish a new one.
Endowed Scholars Award
Endowed scholarships help to attract scholars of the highest caliber — those most capable of contributing significantly to the transformation of health care through their work and leadership. These endowed funds help the department recruit and recognize outstanding scholars who will be the health-care leaders of tomorrow.
