Philosophy of Care
Dr. Speciale believes that exercise is an integral part of physical and mental health for all individuals. She wants to empower patients and provide the tools necessary to allow them to return to sport, recreation, or daily activities with fewer limitations. She enjoys educating patients on all aspects of their diagnoses and treatment plan to provide the highest level of care and create a trusting relationship.
Clinical Interests
Dr. Speciale is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation trained Sports Medicine physician offering nonsurgical care for recreational and competitive athletes of all ages and skill levels with acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries. She serves as Co-Head Team Physician for American River College. As a former competitive figure skater, Dr. Speciale has special clinical interest and expertise in performing arts medicine and female athletes. She has expertise in diagnostic ultrasound, joint and tendon injections, ultrasound guided injections, and regenerative medicine (platelet rich plasma, dextrose prolotherapy). Dr. Speciale is also skilled in coordinating care to help patients return to activity via targeted physical therapy, exercise protocols, bracing needs, other modalities, and non surgical procedures.
Research/Academic Interests
Dr. Speciale's academic and research interests focus on improving the understanding of treatment for tendon disorders, regenerative medicine procedures, and post procedure rehabilitation protocols. She is also interested in continuing education of medical students and residents within Sports Medicine including diagnostic and interventional ultrasound and physical examination skills.
