Brian Pitts, MD, MS, MEHP, is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at UC Davis Health. He specializes in anesthesiology with expertise in neuroanesthesiology and perioperative management of complex adult surgical patients. His work emphasizes patient safety, quality improvement, and the ethical integration of innovative technologies, including artificial intelligence, into clinical care.

Dr. Pitts provides anesthesia care for adult patients across a wide range of surgical specialties, with particular expertise in neuroanesthesiology and the perioperative management of patients with complex medical conditions. He is committed to patient safety and quality improvement, particularly in the post‐anesthesia care unit (PACU), where he focuses on improving workflow, enhancing communication, and supporting timely clinical decision‐making.

Research/Academic Interests

In addition to his medical degree, Dr. Pitts earned a Master’s in Education in the Health Professions from Johns Hopkins University. He is deeply engaged in teaching and mentoring medical students and residents, using simulation‐based training, active learning, and innovative curriculum design to prepare the next generation of anesthesiologists. His research examines how emerging technologies—particularly artificial intelligence—can be applied in useful and ethical ways to support clinical decision‐making, strengthen patient safety, and improve surgical outcomes.
