Care kits

When patients and families are missing the comforts of home, these kits can give them a few minutes of distraction or relaxation. Please reach out to katmacdonald@ucdavis.edu for delivery details and any questions.

General guidelines

  1. For the safety of our patients and families, please only include brand-new items.
  2. Please remember to wash your hands and assemble the kits in a sanitized setting.
  3. We care for patients up to 18 years old and appreciate a variety of kits for children of all ages.
  4. Items should be appropriate for all audiences – please avoid religious and political themes, as well as any violent themes.
  • Slime activity kit supplies

    Slime activity kit

    Assemble items in a clear zip-top or cellophane bag for a fun bedside activity!

    • 3 oz. Elmer's Glue Magical Liquid Activator Solution (can buy in bulk and use disposable plastic portion cups to divide out, or buy single-use bottles)
    • 5 oz. Bottle of Elmer’s Washable Glue (glow-in-the-dark, metallic, glitter, etc.)
    • Slime add-ins of your choosing (plastic confetti, foam beads, gems, etc.)
  • Hair care kit supplies

    Assemble items in a clear zip-top or cellophane bag to help patients feel their best!

    • Detangling spray (Suave Kids, Aussie Kids, etc.)
    • Hairbrush (detangling hairbrushes work best)
    • Hair ties, scrunchies, clips, etc.
  • Infant comfort kit supplies

    Assemble items in a gift bag to help comfort our smallest patients!

    • Board Book
    • Stuffed animal or lovey (No small pieces or choking hazards: embroidered eyes and noses are preferable to beaded eyes)
    • Small rattle or teether toy

    • 2-3 individual cans of Play-Doh (in assorted colors)
    • Play-Doh shape cutters (small plastic cookie cutters work great too)
    • Miniature plastic rolling pin
  • Painting kit supplies

    Painting kit

    Assemble items in a clear zip-top or cellophane bag to provide hours of fun!

    • Small item to decorate (wooden box, wooden animal shape, canvas, ceramic figure, etc.)
    • Paintbrush
    • Paint (strip of acrylic paint pots, 2 oz. jars/bottles of washable or tempura paint, etc.)
    • Supplies for decorating (self-adhesive foam stickers, gems, glitter glue, etc.)
  • Nail care kit supplies

    • 2-3 colors of nail polish (mini sizes are great)
    • Nail polish remover pads/wipes (individually packaged)
    • Mini nail file/buffer

    *Please avoid any sharp objects including cuticle trimmers and nail clippers

    • Instructions for craft (typed and printed on small sheet of paper)
