Support groups

Support groups provide children, teens, and young adults with a chance to create meaning out of their situation, to connect with others in similar circumstances, to engage in self-expressive activities and build coping skills. Coping Together provides support for children through a parent’s illness. Remembering Together is for children, teens and young adults grieving the death of someone significant in their life.

Coping Together: supporting children through a parent’s illness

Coping Together is a support group for children, ages 5-12, who have a parent with cancer or other serious illness.

Group sessions provide opportunities for sharing, self-expression, learning and building coping tools. Coping Together is facilitated by a Child Life Specialist trained in child development, coping and self-expression. Coping Together is held in-person at no cost to the participant. This group runs based on the number of children enrolled. If you have any questions or would like to register your child for an upcoming group, please email child life specialist, Emily McDaniel at ejmcdaniel@ucdavis.edu.
