Javier Morla Estrada’s professional interests include health disparities research, migrant health, neighborhood poverty and environmental justice, behavioral health, and global health; interests which were highly influenced by his education and work experience. Javier received his Master of Science in Development Management from American University in 2013. He has eight years of experience evaluating the impact of global health projects and policies related to mental health, occupational health, infectious disease, and nutrition. For the ACTIVATE project, Javier supports research and program evaluation activities. Specifically, he lead the analysis of the the project’s qualitative needs assessment on access to telehealth and tele-mental health services among Latinx agricultural workers in the Sacramento Metropolitan area. Prior to joining the Center for Reducing health Disparities, Javier worked in Central America where he performed mixed-methods research on the impacts of discriminatory gender norms on gender-based violence in Honduras. Prior to that, in Mexico, Javier researched child labor and the occupational health impacts on migrant workers in agricultural communities in the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz. With a Ph.D. in Public Health Sciences, Javier hopes to teach translational research methods and contribute to health disparities research on vulnerable populations.
