About the Program
  • Overview

    This training program focuses on teaching foundational skills needed to become a clinical research coordinator (CRC). Clinical research coordinators play a crucial role in managing clinical trials, overseeing various stages from beginning to end. The program includes lectures, in-class activities, field trips, and hands-on experiences like shadowing and on the job experience. The program aims to develop student skills, knowledge, and abilities to qualify for entry level career positions after graduation.

    What to expect:

    • 16 weeks of in-person training and on-line self-study totaling up to 20 hours per week. A stipend will provided to accepted students.
    • Online medical terminology course supplemented with office hours with UC Davis nursing staff.
    • Three days of training at Sierra College on selected clinical skills necessary for conducing clinical research studies.
    • Up to 660 hours paid temporary clinical research coordinator position with UC Davis Health to develop skills and provide experience.
    • Career counseling and support from the Greater Sacramento Urban League throughout the program.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Strong desire and ability to work full time in healthcare.
    • Experience in healthcare role (e.g., community health worker, home health aide, etc.).
    • Comfortable with learning scientific concepts.
    • Strong customer service capability.
    • Comfort with technology such as computers, email, and internet.
    • Capability to attend scheduled classes and study independently online for 20 hours per week up to 16 weeks.
    • Capability to work full time for about 4.5 months after completion of the didactic portion of the training program.
  • Requirements

    • 18 years or older.
    • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
    • Completed COVID-19 vaccination.
    • Brief interview with selection committee upon receipt of application.
    • Upon successful application submission and selection committee interview, completion of a health clearance, drug screen (including marijuana), and background check.
