Welcome to the Injury and Violence Prevention Program

The Injury and Violence Prevention Program at UC Davis Health is dedicated to preventing and reducing injuries through the strength of community partnerships. We know that injuries are not accidents and do not occur at random. By working with our partners to identify the specific risks and causes of injuries in their community, we are able to facilitate evidence based environmental and behavioral changes that improve safety for all ages.

Pediatric Injury Prevention

Injury is the #1 Killer of children and teens in the United States. The UC Davis Level I Pediatric Trauma Center treats over 1,300 children each year for preventable injuries. The most common causes for the injuries are falls, car crashes and violence. Our UC Davis Health Injury Prevention Program educates communities on teen safe driving, childhood traffic safety and youth violence intervention. Contact us for more information on how to bring our education programs into your community.

Adult Injury Prevention

In 2016, the top five causes of injury-related deaths among adults in Sacramento County were opiate overdose, falls, motor vehicle injuries, suicide and homicide. Beyond the hundreds of deaths, thousands more adults were incapacitated or permanently disabled by preventable injuries. For older adults, the risk of falling is a major concern. Falls are the leading cause of injury death and loss of independence among seniors. Our program partners with StopFalls Sacramento Coalition to offer free Matter of Balance classes to older adults in communities around the Greater Sacramento Region.
