Cytopathology
Cytopathology is the study of individual cells to detect disease. It is used most commonly to diagnose cancer, and to screen for cancer precursors; however, infectious diseases and other conditions can also be detected.
The missions of the UC Davis Cytopathology Laboratory are to:
- Provide the highest quality cytologic diagnostic services in a timely manner to our patients and clinical colleagues
- Provide high quality education in all aspects of cytopathology to trainees at all levels
- Pioneer new technologies and molecular techniques that aid in cytologic diagnosis
- Participate in regional and national agencies and workgroups that improve health services to community populations
