Clinical Interests
Dr. Vandenakker-Albanese has clinical interests in diagnosis and non-operative care of spine conditions and problems related to sequelae of polio. She has extensive experience working with a team of spine specialists to provide patients with consultation, an accurate diagnosis and the most effective treatments and therapies available. Dr. Vandenakker-Albanese is well-known for her expertise in post-polio syndrome and established the UC Davis Post-Polio Clinic in 2001.
Dr. Vandenakker-Albanese emphasizes patient education regarding their conditions to promote self-management and patient directed care. She speaks locally, nationally and internationally on topics related to spine care and the management of polio-related conditions. She reviews manuscripts for multiple medical journals and has authored several book chapters and peer-reviewed journal publications on topics relating to aging with disability, and rehabilitation of spine and post-polio conditions.

As the department's Mentoring Director and Associate Residency Program Director, Dr. Vandenakker promotes quality medical education and fosters professional development.
