Faculty are engaged in student education and educational program leadership at the professional, graduate, and undergraduate levels. Education is offered in conventional classroom courses, but also through extensive one-on-one experiences in the research laboratories. Trainees include postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, undergraduates, high school interns, and professional students.

The department used to offer Medical Gross Anatomy, Medical Cell and Tissue Biology, and Medical Neuroanatomy. As a result of a curricular revision and reorganization, responsibility for these courses now resides in the School of Medicine, Office of Medical Education. However, for the moment the expertise for these courses still largely resides with department faculty.
At UC Davis, Doctoral and Masters education is offered through Graduate Groups. These groups are open to faculty from all sectors of the campus, giving students great flexibility in marshalling the expertise required for the completion of their graduate research.
