Menstrual irregularity

There are a variety of reasons for irregular periods. Evaluation includes screening for increased testosterone levels, problems with ovarian function and problems with the pituitary gland. Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common cause and involves multidisciplinary management with an experienced medical team which includes a dietitian. Depending on the underlying cause, medications can often be used to regulate menstrual periods.
