Yury García Headshot

Data Analyst, All of Us

Yury García holds a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics. In 2023, she became part of the Center for Reducing Health Disparities, contributing her expertise to the All of Us project as a Data Analyst. Dr. García's research methodology is characterized by close collaborations with public health officials, developing mathematical tools for controlling and surveilling infectious diseases.

Her early research primarily delved into mathematical epidemiology, focusing on multi-pathogen models for acute respiratory diseases and vector-borne diseases. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. García actively collaborated with the Costa Rican Ministry of Health, developing mathematical models to provide insights into the virus dynamic in the country, thereby contributing to informed decision-making. This initiative involved close collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the Costa Rican Social Security Fund, and the Pan American Health Organization.

Dr. García commenced her academic journey at UC Davis in 2021 as a postdoctoral researcher under the mentorship of Dr. Miriam Nuño. As part of Dr. Nuño's team, she supported the data analysis and visualizations for the Healthy Davis Together (HDT) and MOVE IT UP2 Programs, community-driven projects aimed at reducing the impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable communities through the development of disease surveillance tools in California.

Dr. García has collaborated with the Pan American Health Organization, contributing to the development of mathematical models for monitoring COVID-19 during the pandemic, and more recently, she has been actively involved in creating a mathematical framework to study the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly suicide rate, and health coverage.

She is passionate about collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and seeks to leverage her experience and knowledge to support public health authorities in creating a positive impact within communities.
