Master of Advanced Study Degree Program

The Clinical Research Graduate Group is an interdisciplinary graduate group in clinical and translational research offering a Master of Advanced Study (M.A.S.) in Clinical Research degree. The Clinical Research degree program provides a solid clinical/translational research foundation for junior faculty, clinical and postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, medical students, and other health professionals interested in clinical research.

Students gain advanced knowledge of clinical and translational research as it applies to improving of health. Students graduate with the skills necessary to design, conduct, and analyze translational research studies and to interpret, apply, and disseminate research findings. Applicants are typically former or current participants in one of the five mentored research training programs affiliated with the Clinical and Translational Science Center:

The M.A.S. degree requirements include a core intensive curriculum and depend on a cohesive cohort model that provides access to collaborate with researchers across multiple disciplines. In addition, the program concludes with a final capstone project. The capstone consists of an oral presentation at the annual scholar symposium and a written manuscript or grant application.

The program is self-supporting program and receives no subsidies from the state of California. Tuition is set by the program per unit. Some training programs offer tuition coverage, and students may pursue federal student loans if needed.

Degree Requirements

A total of 36 units are required for the M.A.S. Degree in Clinical Research:

  • 26 units of required core courses
  • 3-6 units of approved elective courses
  • 3 units of CLH 299 "Mentored Research"
