Membership

Mentor Members

To qualify as a general member, applicants must:

  • Be appointed at the level of associate or full-professor level in a professorial series (Ladder Rank, In Residence, Clinical X, Health Sciences Clinical Professor, Adjunct)
  • Have an Interest and experience in providing quality mentoring
  • Have completed two Mentoring Academy for Research Excellence workshops

Champion Mentors

Applicants may self-nominate or be nominated by others.

To qualify as a champion mentor, applicants must:

  • Submit a one- to two-page formal letter outlining their:
    • History of commitment to mentoring
    • Accomplishments of mentees regarding their success in scholarship, education and/or clinical excellence
    • Role in supporting UC Davis in mentoring
    • Recognition of their mentoring skills by awards (if awards have been earned)
    • Specific plans for how applicant will participate in Mentoring Academy for Research Excellence endeavors and support mentoring at UC Davis
  • Be appointed at the level of associate or full-professor level in a professorial series (Ladder Rank, In Residence, Clinical X, Health Sciences Clinical Professor, Adjunct)
  • Have completed ALL four Mentoring Academy for Research Excellence workshops
  • Submit two letters of recommendation from mentees attesting to the applicants’ excellence in mentoring to the Mentoring Academy for Research Excellence
  • Provide a letter of support from applicant’s chair, division chief or training director

Member Benefits

Member Responsibilities

  • Mentoring (outstanding quality and quantity)
  • Participation in Mentoring Academy for Research Excellence committees or educational programs

Membership Renewal

  • Recertification every five years for both general and champion members based on mentoring activity

Application Process

The application will be reviewed and voted on by the current champion members in the Mentoring Academy for Research Excellence.

The criteria include:

  • Outstanding quality and quantity of mentoring
  • Leadership role in the Mentoring Academy for Research Excellence
  • Must meet general member requirements
