The CTSC Evaluation and Continuous Quality Improvement (ECQI) team strategically supports ongoing processes to assess, monitor and improve impact of the Center and its modules and initiatives. We are an internal unit designed to identify opportunities to maximize efficiency and impact that are dynamic and unique to each CTSC program and may include scientific, clinical/operational, community or administrative/financial domains. This process includes developing relevant metrics, analyzing timely data-driven evidence, leveraging successful cross-cutting strategies and measuring outcomes and impact locally and nationally. Our team actively participates in national CTSA activities, including cross-hub collaborations as appropriate. The CQI process follows the Lean Six Sigma framework (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) and is designed to be program-initiated, user-friendly, collaborative, data-driven, actionable and sustainable.
The CQI Program provides consultation, guidance and support to Center leads and staff on quality improvement efforts, including:

Welcome to this quality improvement educational resource from the UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center.
I'm Jacqueline Stocking, and in this presentation, Karnjit Johl and I walk through a practical approach to planning, implementing, evaluating and sharing quality improvement projects.
We'll introduce Lean Six Sigma's Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control—or DMAIC—framework and discuss tools that can help teams identify problems, understand their causes, test improvements and sustain results.
Although this presentation was originally developed for Internal Medicine faculty, the principles apply equally to CTSC UM1 program leaders, staff and anyone working to improve clinical, research or administrative processes.
Our goal is to make quality improvement approachable and give you tools you can apply to your own work.
This presentation was originally delivered September 30, 2022. Some institutional procedures, policies and resources may have changed. Please consult current UC Davis and CTSC guidance when applying these methods.
